The horror of uncertainty has weighed too much for so many students. Figuring out the courses that matter, where to attain skills and competences, and exposure to work space realities all water down the true value of education. We asked a simple question: Why wait until graduation to get work-ready? What if intentional career discovery and preparation started early in the education journey? Turning this conviction into an educational enterprise was a lesson in grit.
Every year, over 240,000 graduates across higher institutions of learning in Uganda are passed out in jubilation. Reflections on where to go next and what to do, and who to lead them through the workspace journey visibly, relate to their daily living. The fields seem too green to believe otherwise, yet the process is so rocky. Similarly, employers and industry struggle to identify their next-fit employee from this seemingly ready talent pool. Their lived experience with the early workforce cites a lack of key work-readiness competences, practical exposure, and professional agility. These communicate the glaring skills mismatch that distorts study and employment outcomes, hastening the graduate unemployment in Uganda. This fact, only known to students in the post-education period, teases their confidence, making their potential almost extinct. And wowwww... It becomes clear that adulthood arrived unexpectedly. The key question for us was why should the graduate bear all of the responsibility for life after school? Why should talented individuals struggle to find opportunities year after year?
Demanding a rich harvest without ever nourishing the roots is only hallucinating. As author T. Harv Eker noted, "If you want to change the fruits, you will first have to change the roots." The graduate unemployment roots from as early as secondary school, where the first career choices that dictate the graduate journey for the students are made. This exact friction gave birth to the AniScholar Career Hub.

The passion was furnished with the enrolment into the Youth Startup Academy Uganda, converting AniScholar into a formally committed business. Bootstrapping, configuring cash flow and building an excellent team got us fast-paced to date. Through rigorous mentorship, we have figured out a model that delivers value for students, institutions and employers.
In August 2025, we launched a work-readiness and employability programme for university students as an interactive flagship engagement where students learnt experiences from the employers’ perspective across a 12-week period. In this alone, 691 students at the country’s central institution (Makerere University) were directly impacted. To date, AniScholar has facilitated 108 verified internship placements with trusted industry partners and 20% of participating learners transitioning into entry-level decent employment.
Beyond placements, AniScholar is actively serving 1,700+ learners across higher institutions of learning nationwide and has reached an additional 600+ secondary school learners through career guidance and career readiness programmes across Uganda.

Today, AniScholar's EdTech platform offers an end-to-end career journey that allows learners to discover their career path, assess their readiness for work, develop in-demand skills, and become work-ready and transition confidently into meaningful employment. High school learners ably discover their career aspirations, effectively do subject selection and map their journey as early as lower secondary school. They are able to receive career information, explore various careers visually, and understand the dynamics and requirements of the careers, which boosts their motivation and ambition to excel.
Tertiary-level students are supported to build market-demanded professional competences, mentorship, digital skills, soft skills and competences. They cement these with real trustable proof of exposure coupled with certifications. To validate their abilities, real internship placements, apprenticeships and mentorship are done, culminating in industry-ready vetting and linkage. Employers are redefining actual roles beyond vague job descriptions that shape the skilling. They further access the verified pool of work-ready talent in less than a day, making it easy to trace the right talent as well as minimising post-hiring training costs.

AniScholar was recently selected for the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship; this is our official launchpad. This will significantly improve our technology infrastructure and expand the AniScholar Career Hub across higher education institutions, particularly among last-mile learners in Uganda, making career success a privilege for all students, regardless of background.
Be part of this career and workforce revolution. Partner with AniScholar to integrate data-driven career guidance, labour market intelligence and industry-validated competencies into the student journey, transforming graduates into confident, work-ready professionals sought after by employers.
